Lady Eagles pulled biggest V-League comeback
ATENEO erased a 10 point National University lead in the third set to post the biggest comeback win in Shakey’s V-League history.
The Lady Eagles survived a tough Lady Bulldogs challenge in the last two sets to hammer out a 25-14, 25-22, 26-24 win Sunday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
With the loss, NU dragged to a playoff for the last quarterfinals berth with University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, which fought back from an opening set setback and swept the next three rames, completing a 23-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-22 victory over College of Saint Benilde.
Guest player Alyssa Valdez had 12 markers while Dzi Gervacio and Fille Cainglet added 10 markers apiece for the Ateneo.
The Lady Bulldogs were seemed headed to extend the game when the Bustillos-based squad moved closer to set point, 24-14. But Valdez and Thai import Surasawadee Boonyuen waxed hot in the big Lady Eagles rally to snatch the win.
Ateneo improved to 6-1 to tie San Sebastian College-Excelroof on No. 1 spot.
Despite only being fielded in the third frame, Surasawadee finished with nine markers, the same output which Lady Eagles blocker Gretchen Ho scored.
On the last day of eliminations on Thursday, Ateneo will face Adamson. (TJ)
